Beqaa Valley Red from the Domain Wardy winery is probably a rather simpler but honest wine of Lebanon. Nevertheless, the character proves to be full of spice as well as fruit right from the start.
Especially on the nose, the wine from Domaine Wardy quickly develops a spicy scent of raisins, cigars and ripe fruit. This is followed by a harmonious hint of red berries and cherries. Accordingly, a truly enticing bouquet. Furthermore, the young red wine seems very fresh and sobering.
Next comes the impulsive taste on the palate. Here, it is primarily the Tempranillo that makes its presence. However, the grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah also give the wine the needed spectrum. Consequently, it is obvious, that the grape varieties were chosen strategically! Continuing, aromas of blackberries, black pepper and dark wild berries rise on the aftertaste. Therefore, this Lebanese wine proves to be part of the fruit bombs of Lebanon.
In the finish, the charming red wine then closes with nuances of fresh wild berries and a pleasant acidity. Accordingly, the wine goes really well with old cheese, pasta, poultry as well as beef steak.
As already mentioned, this wine contains grape varieties Tempranillo (34%), Cabernet Sauvignon (33%) and Syrah (33%). All the vines grow 900 to 1050 meters above sea level, similar to alomost all other Lebanese winemakers. This allows the grapes to develop powerful flavors through the thickness of the skin. This is due the numerous hours of sunshine, along with the cold nights, which give the vines just the right weather conditions to develop perfectly. Furthermore, this wine is vinified relatively moderately in concrete tanks to create freshness. Thus, this wine also reflects the wine history and wine culture of Lebanon.
But now let's briefly talk a little about the labels and packaging. Especially, since the winery has recently recreated them in order to re-identify themselves. Tarek Atrissi therefore really gave the winery a new but also authentic face. Hence the Arabic calligraphy on the Beqaa Valley Red soley spells the name Wardy in a modern way.
